Bananas

This country is nuts. I mean bananas. I mean nuts about bananas.

Apparently there was a big cyclone that ruined the banana crop in Queensland earlier in the year and there is a huge demand for any kind of banana. This has caused major dilemmas and has pushed all things banana related into the forefront of the media.

  • The country is importing their bananas from Indonesia, which is causing all kinds of debate about foreign goods.

  • Someone stole two crates from a market in Adelaide and they think it was an inside job. This made national news, as I am nowhere near Adelaide and I heard a telephone interview with an almost witness to the event.

  • Morning DJs are going into rants about how someone had put sultanas (raisins) into their banana bread. I didn't realize this was a bad thing, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

Apparently the fruit are going for huge prices, up to $2.50 Australian per banana. I am pretty sure crack doesn't cost that much. Maybe John Howard should do some investigating into that. People would be a lot happier about their potassium deficiency, at least for a little while.

Frankly I didn't notice the price of bananas, but that's because I was trying to buy my fruit in bulk and I'm working though that 5 kilos of oranges all week.
